In today's digital era, there is a growing trend of consumerism merging with traditional practices like Hinduism. With the advent of digital technology, individuals are now able to participate in online pooja and darshan. This allows devotees to connect with their faith and engage in religious rituals from the comfort of their own homes. Online platforms provide a virtual space for worshippers to perform the rituals, offer prayers, and seek blessings from deities, all through the use of technology. This blending of ancient traditions with modern advancements enables people to embrace their religious beliefs while adapting to the changing times. However, it is important to strike a balance between the convenience of digital worship and the essence of physical presence in temples, as the experience of being physically present holds its own significance in Hinduism.
Through my research, I hope to explore the benefits, challenges, and potential risks that arise from the integration of technology and religion which focuses on the intersection of digital technology, social media, temple websites, and online worship. With the rapid advancements in technology, the digital sphere has become a crucial part of our daily lives, including religious practices. I am particularly interested in understanding how individuals utilize digital platforms to engage in worship and spiritual activities. By studying the impact of social media, mobile applications, and temple websites on religious practices, I aim to shed light on the changing dynamics of spirituality in the digital age. The research delves into the examination of Hindu Worship conducted online, with a specific focus on three primary areas: the online temple, commercial puja sites (which facilitate the ordering of religious rituals), and religious discourse sites.
